There are two common herbs that have an anise flavor:
- Anijs (Anise): This is the most obvious answer, as the herb’s name directly reflects its flavor. Anise seeds are small, green, and star-shaped. They have a strong licorice-like flavor that is both sweet and slightly bitter. Anise is commonly used in baked goods, candies, and liqueurs.
- Venkel (Fennel): Fennel has a slightly milder anise flavor than anise seeds. The feathery leaves and bulb of the fennel plant can be used in cooking. Fennel is a popular ingredient in sausages, fish dishes, and salads.
