There are two main contenders for the title of deepest canyon in Arizona:
Grand Canyon National Park: The Grand Canyon is the most famous canyon in the world, and for good reason. It is truly massive, stretching 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide and attaining a depth of over a mile (6,093 feet or 1,857 meters). The canyon exposes colorful layers of rock dating back billions of years.
Death Valley National Park: While Death Valley is technically not in Arizona (it’s mostly in California with a small extension into Nevada), it’s geographically close and often considered when discussing deep canyons in the area. Badwater Basin in Death Valley holds the title of the lowest point in North America, sitting at 282 feet (86 meters) below sea level. However, the depth of the canyon itself is not as impressive as the Grand Canyon, reaching a maximum depth of around 5,775 feet (1,760 meters).
