The 2008 American Western film Appaloosa was directed by Ed Harris. Harris also starred in the film alongside Viggo Mortensen, Renée Zellweger, and Jeremy Irons. The film is based on the 2005 novel of the same name by crime writer Robert B. Parker.
Harris was a newcomer to directing at the time, having only previously directed the 2000 biopic Pollock. However, he was praised for his work on Appaloosa, with critics particularly noting his ability to create a visually stunning and atmospheric film.
