Sanne Wevers is a Dutch artistic gymnast. She is the 2016 Olympic champion on the balance beam and was the first Dutch female gymnast to become an Olympic champion in an individual event. She is the 2018 and 2023 European champion on the balance beam. She was a member of the Dutch team that won the bronze medal at the 2018 and 2023 European Championships. Wevers, primarily an uneven bars and balance beam specialist, has competed internationally for the Netherlands since 2004.
Wevers was born in Leeuwarden, Netherlands on September 17, 1991. She began gymnastics at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks. In 2004, she made her international debut at the European Championships. She competed in the team event, but the Netherlands did not place.
Wevers continued to improve and in 2006, she won her first international medal, a bronze medal on the balance beam at the Junior European Championships. She also competed at the World Championships that year, but did not place.
In 2007, Wevers won her first gold medal at the World Championships, on the balance beam. She also won a silver medal on the team event. She continued to be successful in the following years, winning medals at the European Championships and the World Championships.
At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Wevers won the gold medal on the balance beam. She was the first Dutch female gymnast to win an Olympic gold medal in an individual event. Her victory was a major accomplishment for Dutch gymnastics and for Wevers herself.
Wevers has continued to compete since the 2016 Olympics. She won the European championship on the balance beam in 2018 and 2023. She is also a member of the Dutch team that is competing at the 2023 World Championships.
Wevers is an inspiration to many young gymnasts. She is a role model for Dutch athletes and for female athletes everywhere. She is a talented and hardworking gymnast who has achieved great things.
