Victory Boogie Woogie is the last unfinished work by the Dutch abstract painter Piet Mondrian.
Created between 1942 and 1944, the large oil painting is considered one of Mondrian’s greatest artistic achievements. It is an explosion of primary colors (red, yellow, blue) , black, white and grey lines in a grid-like structure. The title reflects Mondrian’s hope for Allied victory in World War II, and the painting is thought to capture the energy and rhythm of New York City jazz, specifically boogie-woogie music, which Mondrian had come to love.
The work is unfinished because Mondrian died in New York in February 1944. He was still working on it just three days before his death. The painting is currently in the collection of the Kunstmuseum Den Haag in The Hague, Netherlands.
